Hot weather can make your daily Glendale and Surprise drives unbearable, and the summer doesn’t help. Thankfully, there are ways to stay cool this summer for yourself and your vehicle. Learn more about how to keep your car cool in summer below before learning about why your car could be overheating.

Tips for Keeping Your Car Cool

  • Park in the Shade: It’s an easy solution and that much more helpful if you can manage it. Keeping your car in the shade will reduce its temperature that much more.
  • Purchase a Sunshade or Window Visor: Visors or a sunshade are great alternatives to shade and just come in handy for being out in the warm weather. You can also purchase a sunshade for your rearview mirror!
  • Park in a Covered Area: Park somewhere like a parking garage or other cool spot for even better temperature regulation for your vehicle.
  • Cover the Steering Wheel & Dashboard: You can buy a cloth steering wheel cover so that you don’t burn yourself, and dash covers are a great way to protect your car’s surfaces from sun damage.
  • Crack Open the Windows: Crack your windows to allow air to move through your car’s cabin. Don’t roll the windows down too much if you’re leaving your car unattended for any amount of time.
  • Protect the Leather Surfaces: In the summer, leather can get very hot to the touch, and too much sun exposure can fade the material. Neither is great, and cloth seat covers will protect your leather during the summer.
  • Get Tinted Windows: Tinted windows are a good way to reduce the temperature of your car’s cabin. Make sure you check the laws in your state before you purchase tinted windows though
  • Let Your Car Cool Before Driving: Open the car doors and let your car cool off before heading out for a drive. This will help move the warm air out of the cabin, and allow the cooler air to move in.
